Along with several other Councillors, I took a break in campaigning today, to go and look at the launch of our new greener refuse wagons, outside the Council House in Victoria Square.
Refuse vehicles should reach Euro 4 level. Our new wagons are Euro 5, which means they give out no harmful emissions at all. They come from Warwickshire too, so they’ve been sourced locally. They also have split hoppers, meaning they can collect green and paper (for example) recyclables at the same time, saving the neeed for two wagons to visit a road on the same day. I’m told a fleet of 14 have been purchased so far, with 18 more to follow shortly.
As well as being green because they are more environmentally friendly, Birmingham’s new wagons are also green in colour, much nicer than the old silver. And, for the first time in years, we are putting Birmingham’s official crest, the “Forward” badge back on our vehicles, restoring our civic pride! Look out for the new greener wagons in Edgbaston shortly!
