Apologies for lack of posts over the previous couple of weeks, but I have been away on holiday. However I am now home and straight back to work in the constituency!
I was glad that a debate on the Chancellor’s Pre Budget Statement was held in the House of Commons yesterday. I considered it an outrage that the Government had originally intended that such an important announcement would not be debated by Parliament at all (especially as Parliament is now in recess until the Queen’s Speech in the middle of next week, so they could hardly argue shortage of time as a reason).
The Chancellor’s statement was dynamite. The national debt will hit £1 trillion by 2012-2013, landing every area of the UK with an eye-watering multi-billion pound bill. Conservatives have estimated that in the West Midlands we shall have to stump up over £90 billion to pay back our share of Brown’s Borrowing Bombshell. We and our children will be paying off this debt for decades to come.
Meanwhile, in the constituency, a new In Touch leaflet is being delivered in Edgbaston Ward. This should be popping through letterboxes in the ward over the next couple of weeks.
