Yesterday saw the annual Mayor-Making ceremony at Birmingham Council House when Labour Councillor Chauhdry Rashid took over the role of Lord Mayor from Northfield Conservative Councillor Randal Brew.
This was the first Full Council meeting for Birmingham’s new Councillors who included the six Conservatives who won seats in Quinton, Weoley, Longbridge, Erdington, Stockland Green and Oscott. The Conservative Group is by far the largest on the Council now with 49 Councillors. We run the Council in partnership with the Liberals who have 32 Councillors. Labour have 36 and Respect 3.
In the Edgbaston constituency the Conservatives now hold all 12 Council seats, as we do in Northfield and in Sutton Coldfield.
