The Future Of Nursing – A Consultation

As a Conservaive Parliamentary Candidate, I recently received notification of a Conservative consultation document entitled “The Future Of Nursing”.

In Edgbaston, we have Birmingham City University’s Faculty of Health – the Seacole Building – where nurses of the future are being trained. I went to the opening of the building in July 2007, and visited again in February 2008, with Shadow Health Minister Stephen O’Brien (pictured).

The Conservative Party is keen for a wide variety of people in the nursing profession to take part in our recently launched consultation, so I have sent a copy of the document to the University. I have also given another copy to a nurse who works locally in Birmingham.

The document explains how we want to allow nurses to nurse by freeing them from Government targets and trusting them with greater autonomy and professional control, how we are keen to bring the best people into nursing, and how we want to support the professional development of nurses.

The purpose of the consultation is to determine the best ways to achieve these goals. Hopefully people involved in the nursing profession, from across the country, will take part and give the party their views.
