It was a busy Saturday of campaigning today in three different wards of the constituency. We started off canvassing – a sunny morning, and I didn’t meet a single Labour supporter.
Our sheets of canvassing finished, I headed off for a pre-arranged meeting with a local shopkeeper who wanted to discuss various issues with me.
Then, after a stop for lunch and to send off the emails for the casework I picked up this morning, it was back out onto the streets – this time for a clean up in Dimmingsdale Bank and beside The Village Inn in Quinton.
Cllr Jane James, Cllr Peter Smallbone, another party worker and I set to with litter pickers, rakes etc. to clear out the rubbish which had got right under the bushes beside the path leading up to The Village Inn. We then did a litter pick around the pub and shops area. In just over an hour, we collected three bags of litter – as usual, mostly sweet wrappers, crisp bags, polystyrene trays, bottles and cans. Chatting as we worked, we decided that bringing back the old deposit system on bottles might go some way to stopping some of the litter on our streets.
