Today I was invited along to the ceremony where Smethwick born actress Julie Walters was presented with her star which will go in the Broad Street Walk of Stars, in Birmingham. Julie joins other stars with a local connection such as Noddy Holder, Ozzy Osbourne, Jasper Carrott and the cast of The Archers in having her own star set in the pavement in Broad Street.
After Julie had been presented with her star by the Lord Mayor, she took part in a question and answer session. She talked about the smash hit film Mamma Mia! (filmed at Pinewood Studios and on location in Greece), about her hilarious role as Mrs Overall in Acorn Antiques (a shop in Harborne was used for the exterior shots of the antique shop), and about her early life as a trainee nurse at the QE Hospital in Edgbaston – which she apparently hated.
Julie also told about her recent work – a Christmas special, and a film about Mo Mowlam which will be out in January. A great performance from a true local star!
