November 25th was the International Day for the Eradication of Violence Against Women. Starting on that day, men and boys are encouraged to wear a white ribbon for one or two weeks, to show their support for the campaign to end male violence to women.
The White Ribbon Campaign is unique because it is the first male oriented organisation to oppose violence against women.
At yesterday’s Christmas Lights switch on event in Harborne, white ribbons were given out by the Council’s constituency Community Safety officer, and a number of men were wearing them, and so were some women (including me).
I have helped with several initiatives in the constituency against domestic violence (which sadly can increase around Christmas time) and am pleased to support this one as well. For more information visit www.whiteribboncampaign.co.uk
