After a busy morning campaigning, this afternoon I went to the Young At Heart event which was funded by the Council’s Edgbaston Constituency Committee and put together by Council officers working in conjunction with a number of other partners such as the Police and the Karis Neighbourhood scheme.
About 100 elderly people from across the constituency came to the event at Four Dwellings High School. There were a number of stalls giving advice and information on such things as keeping safe, bogus callers, the Home From Hospital Care charity, the Community Links team, and lots more. There was also a range of therapies for people to try.
Outside caterers provided a fantastic lunch which was served by young members of the Elite Football team from Quinton. This was followed by entertainment by youngsters from the Benmore Play Project, a singer, and finally dancing for everyone to join in, then tea and cakes.
Waitrose in Harborne had kindly donated prizes in the form of food and vouchers for a prize draw which I drew at the end of the afternoon. Everyone I spoke to said what a good time they had had, so a big thank you to all the Council officers and representatives from partner agencies who worked so hard to put on such a special day for our elderly folk.
