Biodiversity Work In Bartley Woods

Last week I met up with the Bartley Green Councillors, the Woodgate Valley Head Ranger and the Council’s apprentices in Bartley Woods, Bartley Green so see some of the biodiversity work the apprentices have been engaged in there.

Paths through the woods have been cleared and clearings made to encourage wildlife. The Ranger explained that woodpeckers (of which there are Green Woodpeckers and  Great Spotted Woodpeckers in the woods) particularly like the clearings. March 2010 017

It’s good to see the Council apprentices engaged in this kind of conservation work. We have three oak woods in Bartley Green Ward which is great when you think that Edgbaston is a city constituency. Bartley Woods is one of the constituency’s hidden gems.
