Cricket At Edgbaston

Tonight’s Edgbaston Ward Meeting (a Council committee, the first meeting of it during this Municipal year) took place at St Mary and St Ambrose Church Hall this evening. The hall is practically next door to Warwickshire Cricket Club’s famous Edgbaston ground – and tonight they were hosting a 20-20 match gainst the Northants Steelbacks. Fortunately the traffic around the ground was moving freely.

On the agenda was an update from Warwickshire County Cricket Club on the building of their new stand.  The meeting was told that the new stand will be ready at the beginning of July next year.

As for the rest of the development (the proposed flats, houses, offices, shops and hotels) which is to be built on the old car park – this currently only has outline planning permission, but we were told by the representative from the club that detailed planning permission will be sought and it is expected the development will be carried out in phases over several years.

Meanwhile the next 20-20 match is against the Durham Dynamos on Friday June 11th. There will be six further 20-20 games held at Edgbaston between then and Friday July 16th.

The club gave out copies of their newsletter for residents at the meeting. This is called Outside Edg and included a free voucher to watch any remaining County Championship match summer.
