Normally Harborne High Street is a busy thoroughfare with buses and cars on the road, and shoppers on the pavements. However once a year, for the Carnival, the High Street is closed off as we have a fun fair, stalls and all the other attractions of the Carnival happening in Harborne’s main street.
The Edgbaston constituency therefore takes advantage of this once a year closure, to stage a Fun Run along the High Street after it has been closed to traffic but before the Carnival begins and the crowds build up.
So bright and early at 9.30 yesterday morning, John (a Harborne Councillor) was in position to set off the runners from the All Electric Garage end of the High Street, while Cllr Peter Hollingworth and I were on hand at the other end of the High Street, by the Green Man (which is the boundary between Harborne and Edgbaston Wards) to hand out medals to all the competitors.
There were three races – under 10s, under 12s, and a family race – and a great time was had by all!
