While I was on holiday, the Sky Ride took place (when some city streets were closed one Sunday to enable residents to cycle freely) and the Pershore Rd in Edgbaston was part of the route. Although I have received a couple of complaints from local residents about lack of access, generally the event seems to have been very well received.
At last night’s Edgbaston Ward Meeting, we were told how the worshippers at St Mary and St Ambrose Church held their morning service outside the church under a marquee on the day in question so that the church could join in with the Sky Ride event.
Information was also given about the Half Marathon which is due to take place on October 24th. Again the course goes through parts of Edgbaston Ward but the last quarter of the route is different from last year. From the Pershore Rd, the course goes onto Ladywood Middleway, then down Ryland Rd, St James’s Road and across to Highfield Rd where the runners will turn right to finish the race by coming down Broad Street.
Residents who will be affected by road closures should have had their second letter detailing arrangements this week, with a third to follow nearer the time. The race starts at 9.00am with the roads closing one hour earlier.
