On Friday evening I attened the Shining Stars 2010 event – a celebration of success in Birmingham City Council’s Adults and Communities Department. The event is an annual one which, this year, was held in a marquee at the County Cricket Ground in Edgbaston.
There were 10 categories linked to the 7 key Adults and Communities outcomes, and covered sections such as: Team Success, Working in Partnership, Employee of the Year, and Carers. After the winners of the different sections had been anounced, the tables all took to the keypad to vote for the overall winner – which was the Employee of the Year section winners who are Counselling and Social and Personal Development Officers for People with Learning Disabilities from the Moseley Day Centre. I’m delighted to say that I was co-ordinating the key pad for our table and they were the people we voted for!
There was also some great entertainment from the InteGreat Theatre Group and the Broadway Over 50s Dance Team. The main guests were local girl and gold medal athlete Denise Lewis OBE, and the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Birmingham. A raffle was held with all proceeds going to the Lord Mayor’s charities.
Altogether a great evening celebrating the great achievments of people who work in Birmingham City Council’s Adults and Communities Directorate. Many thanks to the sponsors who made the event possible.
