Lst night I jointly opened the Roman Way Christmas Party with a local Police Superintendent. It was a fantastic event for residents and partner agencies who are involved with Neighbourhood Tasking on the estate. Like the Tasking meetings, the Christmas event was staged at the Learning Hub on Metchley Lane.
A police brass band and a ladies’ choir provided the entertainment, there was plenty of food, and there were also exhibitions from Birse (Selly Oak New Road), Consort Healthcare (regarding their role in the new QE), and collections for Help The Heroes (which was very apt as the military wards have moved across from Selly Oak to Edgbaston this year).
The Roman Way Estate CIC also launched their ballot campaign to become a TMO – voting will take place in January and the result will be known by the end of January 2011.
Congratulations to all the organisers, especially Nick Reynolds (secnd left in the picture) who was the mastermind behind last night’s event.
From the party, I went on to the Edgbaston Ward Meeting which was being held at the Church of the Redeemer off Monument Road. Items on the agenda included the proposed expansion of Chad Vale School, the Big City Plan and the proposed Audley Retirement Scheme – so a busy night in Edgbaston Ward last night!
