Birmingham’s refuse collection is currently dealing with 3 different problems – bank holidays on Monday and Tuesday of this week and Monday of next week which disrupt the normal service, bad weather last week which made some side roads impassable, and industrial action (a work to rule) by the operatives. On top off this, there is always an increase in waste put out after Christmas.
As a result many streets have bags left out. Normally Birmingham has 40 black bag crews, 20 multi material crews and 20 paper collection crews. The work to rule has reduced this capacity by 20% at a time when there is increased rubbish on the streets.
However crews ARE out picking up the rubbish and the advice is to leave your refuse at the front of the property until collection if it has been missed due to bad weather, high volume or industrial action.
