The need for the old Firebird pub on the Benmore Estate to be demolished, was the very first story I put on this blog several years ago. But in the end, demolished it was, and now a new development called Phoenix is being built on the site.
This month saw the launch of the show home there with over 50 people visiting on the first day – showing the popularity of, and need for, this scheme.
In total, Optima (the RSL who are developing Phoenix) have 78 energy efficient homes in the area under construction at the present time. This represents an investment of £11 million in new homes with £4.8 million HCA funding.
Some of the properties on Phoenix are Homebuy. These are specifically aimed at first time buyers who are unable to afford to buy a home outright.
To qualify for this scheme, people interested in Homebuy houses must have a household income under £60,000, less than £15,000 of existing debt and they must be first time buyers of course.
