Unveiling The Edgbaston Community Mosaic

Back in the winter, I blogged about the community mosaic which was being made, and how I had gone along to Edgwood Court, Bellis Street to help put in a few tiles.

The finished mosaic is now on permanent display outside Edgwood Court and on Saturday I had the honour of officially unveiling it.

The Edgbaston Community Mosaic

The mosaic was put together by local residents, school children, police, Councillors and people who work in the Waterworks Estate area – under the direction of Jackie Nash Art. The work was done over two days in the winter. The finished mosaic shows scenes from the area around Monument Rd, including Perrots Folly, the Waterworks Tower, Monument Rd and the stones in Hickman Gardens.

The work was sponsored by the National Lottery Heritage Fund in conjunction with Pisces West Midlands. The picture above shows me, with Cllr James Hutchings, local resident representative Chris Hoare and representatives from Pisces.

The mosaic is a great example of how when lots of people get together and all do a little bit to help – the finished result is bigger and better than the sum of the individual parts.
