The MEP Matters magazine reports that West Midlands Conservative MEP, Philip Bradbourn, has been appointed opposition spokesman on a European Road Safety proposal. The report seeks to harmonise road safety laws across the EU, leading to significantly increased regulation and yet another proposed EU agency to oversee it.
Phil Bradbourn said, “I will do everything I can to oppose such needless bureaucracy. These are national matters and not for Brussels to decide. For example, they’re looking to set an EU wide Winter Tyre rule, meaning all cars would have to have winter tyres at a certain date. You cannot tell me that motorists in Malta need winter tyres! It’s typical of the one size fits all approach taken on such matters.”
