Tonight I was invited to the ceremony to install a new Chancellor of Birmingham City University. The University has campuses across the city, including the Health Faculty in Westbourne Road, Edgbaston – and it is because of my job as Health Scrutiny Chairman, that I am invited to the event.
The University took a decision when it was given University status in 1992, to always have the current Lord Mayor of Birmingham as the Chancellor. Thus in 2003/4 when my husband was Lord Mayor, he was the Chancellor.
Tonight, the current Lord Mayor, Cllr Anita Ward, was installed as the 20th Chancellor of the University at an event at Birmingham Council House. During her year she will preside over the degree ceremonies and doubtless visit the different campuses.
