Three New Trees For St Augustine’s

After two attempts to plant 3 new trees on the grass opposite Lee Crescent ended in the trees being uprooted and dumped across the Middleway on Lee Bank, residents and Councillors agreed that the best thing was to find a new site.

The trees are therefore being added to others which were planted around St Augustine’s Church several years ago.

The Lee Crescent saga is a sad one. The second time, special underground wiring was used to secure the trees – but still it didn’t deter the vandals/thieves. Since on both occasions the trees were dumped in the same obscure location, we are all assuming it was the same culprit(s) who were responsible both times. On both occasions the semi-mature trees were manhandled across the Belgrave Middleway dual carriage in order to be dumped. Someone was clearly very determined that they were not going to adorn the green in front of Lee Crescent. Very sad!
