Last Saturday Edgbaston Ward Conservatives were out in force delivering leaflets about the Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner hustings. There are 4 hustings around the region which are open to anyone from any party to attend, to have their say in choosing the Conservative candidate for the November election.
Tonight the first of these hustings took place at the Conservative Club in Erdington. It was a packed house with over 150 people attending and standing room only. The event was chaired by former Northfield MP, Roger King.
Both candidates – former Birmingham Councillor Matt Bennett, and Solihull Councillor and former policeman Joe Tildesley – delivered speeches and took a number of questions from the audience. A vote then took place, but as there are four hustings, the ballots will not be counted until the final hustings next week.
Both candidates performed exceptionally well and I look forward to working with whichever of them wins.
