The last three days have seen two resident groups’ AGMs taking place in Edgbaston. First off the was Rotton Park Action Group, whose AGM on Wednesday evening, held at the Servol Building on the Dudley Road, I attended.
It’s 15 years since the group started and in the early days, I was their secretary, taking the minutes at meetings. The problems of street prostitution, which was their reason for forming, have now much reduced, due to a number of iniatives which they fought for especially OCTV cameras, road closures, and a reduction in the number of telephone boxes in the area, and due to the numerous patrols which they have carried over the past 15 years, both on foot and more recently in the Streetwatch Van.
The second AGM I attended, was the Woodview Residents’ Association AGM, held last night at Latimer Gardens. The group meet regularly 10 months of the year, are doing a good job in their area, and it was unsurprising therefore that their officers were re-elected unopposed.
Well done to all members of both organisations who have done such sterling work for their communities over many years.
