Back in January 2010, I blogged about the launch of the plans for the Hagley Road Village (pictured) – a joint arrangement between Birmingham City Council, the Extra Care Charitable Trust and the Homes & Communities Agency to provide a £40 million Retirement Village in the Edgbaston Constituency. On Friday, the show flats were unveiled and I went along for a tour round.
Set on a 7 acre site, the village will provide 240 brand new affordable homes for local people over the age of 55 when it opens in late 2013. Of these, 189 will be for purchase or shared ownership, with the remainder for rent. 94 are one bedroom homes, and 146 are two bedroom.
The village facilities on site will include a reception, a main street with communal seating areas, shop, restaurant, library and IT suite, cafe, bar and lounge, well being suite, hair and beauty salon, craft room, fitness suite etc. There are also 161 parking spaces on site.
The Village’s marketing suite opens tomorrow (Monday October 2nd) with people on hand to answer all your questions, and with the two show flats available to view each Wednesday morning. The show flats are beautifully furnished and show what both the one and two bedroom accommodation will be like. I was particularly impressed by the large built in cupboards in the hall of the two bedroom apparment.
The homes to purchase are available from £189,950, with 50% shared ownership available from £94, 975.
