Yesterday Cllr Robert Alden, Cllr Randal Brew and I were shown around the New Street Station redevelopment site by Network Rail.
The work to renew New Street Station is taking place while the station remains operational. It is therefore being undertaken in two phases. The first phase is nearing completion and in April there will be a switchover – when passengers change to using the newly altered parts of the concourse, and the existing station concourse will then close for redevelopment.
The work will be completed in 2015 and will include a John Lewis store – work on which has already begun, as we saw yesterday. John Lewis, and the redeveloped Pallasades are due to open in autumn 2014.
It was very interesting and informative to see the work progressing and many thanks to Network Rail for arranging the visit.
